Sunshine Coast set to challenge the World Record Pram Push on Mother’s Day

Bundle up the bubs, kindle up the kids and pack the perambulator Sunshine Coast ‘cause we’ve got ourselves a dinky-di World Record challenge on our hands!

The Lily House Pram Push is happening on Mother’s Day, Sunday May 13, at Cotton Tree Park and Lily House is calling out to the Sunshine Coast to come together in the spirit of family and fun to celebrate mum’s and to beat a World Record at the same time.

“A pram push is the perfect family activity and what better day to do it on than on Mother’s Day?” said Linda McLeish, event organizer and director of Lily House; a charity organisation in Nambour that provides shelter, education and care for homeless and at-risk young mum’s and women.

“We want to see mums and dads, bubs and tots, sisters and brothers, aunts, uncles, grandmas and grandpa’s, young and old, getting onboard and strolling through Cotton Tree Park with a pram or stroller,” Linda said.

Hong Kong currently holds the record with 574 prams being pushed at one time and Lily House is rallying to beat it.   “574 prams is not that many when you consider there were 2267 babies born here on the Sunshine Coast in 2011 alone,” Linda said.

A fun family festival will follow the pram push in Cotton Tree Park with games, rides, prizes, market stalls, yummy food and music.  This year’s theme is ‘flowers’ with super duper prizes including pampering and holiday packages for participants and best dressed prams.

The Lily House Pram Push happens on Sunday May 13 at Cotton Tree Park from 11am-4pm. Prams assemble in front of the Main Stage at 11am and push off after the official welcome by the Gubbi Gubbi.

Everybody loves newborns, and in this season at Lily House, new borns are the order of the day!

The Newest Face at Lily House

On Saturday 26th November one of our gorgeous Lily House girls had an equally gorgeous little tiny 5lb son.  Mother and baby are doing well, and we look forward to sharing these first few months with a new and speciall little life!

Previously we welcomed Jack into the world, who was born to Niki (or as Darin calls her, Skiki!) on Saturday October 1st, 2011 by caesarian section.  Young Jack was a whopping 9.94 pounds, and he is totally gorgeous (just like his mum!).  They are making a life for themselves outside of Lily House now and we wish them every blessing and success.  It’s a joy to have known them!

More to Come at Lily House

As always, there will always be more to come at Lily House!  Each of these little lives will bring joy and laughter to our home, in addition to a few smelly nappies, but we are all excited and thrilled with the latest in new arrivals at Lily House!

Lily House seeks to directly address this problem by providing tangible support and accommodation for these women at the moment in life when they need it most!

Lily House is a women’s temporary accommodation centre that was opened in May 2008 as a response to a need for temporary housing for women during a period of readjustment in their life. At present two homes are in operation as part of a long term vision for a series of homes on the Sunshine Coast and beyond. These homes will offer short-term accommodation, with the aim of assisting young women facing hardship and helping them to integrate into the community with a sense of hope and purpose. Lily House focuses particularly on young pregnant women in need of support to enable them to give birth to their babies and establish themselves in the community with the basic skills and support needed to create a loving safe environment in which to raise their child.

Since opening its doors, Lily House has provided assistance to women experiencing various forms of crisis; young mothers and infants fleeing domestic violence, homeless women of all ages and pregnant young women.

Lily House aims to bring wholeness to women from all walks of life, being committed to serving the total person physically, emotionally and spiritually. Lily House is staffed and maintained totally by volunteers on the Sunshine Coast. Residents have been introduced to Lily House through referrals from local and government organisations, local churches, community groups and private recommendations.
